The ASEAN Workshop on X-ray Absorption Spectroscopy (AWX2015) held on during 8th – 10th June, 2015 at SLRI. Submission of applications for the workshop is now available online. The goal of the AWX2015 workshop is to provide basic and essential knowledge to well understand XAS techniques and able to fully apply this technique in research problems. Furthermore, AWX2015 will bring together national and international experienced synchrotron users of different scientific backgrounds, particularly new users from the neighboring countries of Thailand to promote XAS research in ASEAN scientific community.
AWX2015 combine invited talks with extensive tutorials on XAS data analyses (IFEFFIT - Athena and Artemis), given by Dr. Bruce Ravel from National Institute of Standards and Technology, Dr. Shelly Kelly from UOP LLC, A Honeywell Company and Dr. Wantana Klysubun from SLRI. A tour of the synchrotron accelerator complex, synchrotron-radiation beamlines and experimental stations will be organized, allowing participants to take a close look and to discuss potential applications with the beamline scientists.
All participants are required to bring their own laptops to the workshop for use in workshop tutorial sessions.The number of participants is limited; a maximum of 50 participants will be accepted. Limited financial supports are available for young researchers and graduate students from Thailand (7 grants) and ASEAN countries (7 grants).

ASEAN-Japan Workshop in THAILAND on Innovation, Science and Technology for Sustainable Development at Dusit Thani Hotel, Bangkok.
On June 9th 2016, the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA) under the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) together with the STS Forum Japan and the Japan External Trade Organization (Jetro) hosted the ASEAN-Japan Workshop in THAILAND on Innovation, Science and Technology for Sustainable Development at Dusit Thani Hotel, Bangkok. The objectives of the STS Workshop are (1) to provide a new mechanism for open discussions on an informal basis, and (2) to build a human network that would, in time, resolve the new types of problems stemming from the application of science and technology.
Following the first successful workshop in Singapore in 2014, and in Malaysia in 2015, this ASEAN-Japan Workshop in Bangkok, was the third workshop and also the first workshop of this kind after the establishment of the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC).
The 158 top leaders from various institutions of Japan and ASEAN Member States participated to discuss, develop and communicate on the topic of Innovation, Science and Technology for Sustainable Development that would lead to long-term benefits of mankind. Participants shared their thoughts and views regarding important issues surrounding two topics which are (1) Innovation and Linkages: Collaboration between SMEs & Global Companies in the era of ASEAN Economic Community (AEC), and (2) Human Capital Development to raise Collaboration & Competitiveness through Innovation between ASEAN and Japan. The results from each discussion sessions could help identify some directions towards the establishment of shared values and commitment for the future.

(On June 8, 2016) At Dusit Thani Hall, Dusit Thani hotel. Dr.Pichet Durongkaveroj, Minister of Science and technology presided over the opening international meeting “Midyear Asia Pacific Metrology Programme (APMP) Meetings 2016 and Related Activities (APMP-MY-2016)” and make a speech on the topic “Thailand’s Embarking on National Quality Infrastructure (TBC).” Moreover, National Institute of Metrology (NIMT) under Minister of Science and technology were honored to host the event. The APMP Mid-Year Meetings held during June 6th to10th ,2016 under concept ““Quality” and Quality Culture.”
Furthermore, In the APMP-MY-2016, the highlighted issues will concern the DEC NMIs such as how to efficiently develop our organisations to fulfil expectation of a stakeholders. It had one full day to listen to and exchange with a colleagues who have been working on this issue with passion, most of their lives, and also shared an experiences among ourselves.
