Ministry of Science and Technology gets ready to launch Sirindhorn Center for Geo-Informatics, aiming at strengthening researchers in Geo-Informatics with international capacities.

28 February 2015, Dr. Pichet Durongkaveroj, Minister of Science and Technology said that in 2007 the Cabinet approved the Ministry of Science and Technology by Geo-Informatics and Space Technology Development Agency (GISTDA) to sign MOU with Wuhan University, People’s Republic of China, in order to establish “Sirindhorn International Center for Geo-Informatics (SCGI)” to commemorate Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn. Located at Space Krenovation Park (SKP), Sri Racha, Chonburi, SCGI would be the collaboration destination by personnel from People’s Republic of China and Thailand.

At the moment the construction of SCGI has been completed. The official opening will take place on Friday 20 March 2015. H.R.H. Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn will preside at the Opening Ceremony os SCGI. SCGI is expected to be the centre for technology transfer and human resources development on space technology as well as geo-informatics in ASEAN. The activities include training, studying, R&D of innovation, resources integration of both personnel and equipment, networking, information sharing and exchange program for researchers and experts on geo-informatics. SCGI will lead to development of regional space technology and geo-informatics application, and thus building capacities of GISTDA internationally.
