Dr.Pichet Durongkaveroj, Minister of Science and Technology says that due to the drought problems which Thailand faces at this time, MOST realizes the urgent requirement, therefore the working group to solve drought problems, chaired by Permanent Secretary, is established as war-room to support government’s mission by 3 measures as follows:

  1. 1.To support information on situation and forecast
  2. 2.To support drought recovery and restoration
  3. 3.To support for searching the alternative water resources location

Dr.Pichet says that MOST provides package to solve drought problems, ready to help agriculturalists instantly. It consists of water resources information system by Hydro and Agro Informatics Institute to apply information technology to collect information on water resources in the same system and to provide services via www.thaiwater.net in order that the agencies concerned has information for making decision for water resources management and the public can follow and update the situation.

While Geo-Informatics and Space Technology Development Agency(GISDA) arranges NGIS Map Portal(National Geo-Information Infrastructure System Portal) to follow up drought areas by satellite photographic technology, to analyze and to examine drought situation covering the whole country. This map system is information to identify the important areas for ground water drilling and also to support the agriculturalists to make decision for selecting crop planting by ”Integrated system: NGIS Map Portal” services according to Prime Minister’s assignment.

National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA) by National Nanotechnology Center cooperates with Hydro and Agro Informatics Institute to develop brackish water filtration into drinking water by nanotechnology filter: SOS t1(System of salinity) to solve sea water invading the main rivers which affect the agricultural areas and water supply production system.  As Thailand Institute for Scientific and Technological Research (TISTR) achieves of R&D on Ultra Filtration and sea water filtration into fresh water by Reverse Osmosis and provides experimental services for drinking water filtration and turbidity of filter according to industrial standard.

Department of Science Service prepares for Rapid Mobile Unit to collect surface water sampling in order to test water quality in the areas that quality of water may affect people’s living quality in the community or environment of the country. Thailand Institute of Nuclear Technology produces superabsorbent polymers from cassava flour which has potential to apply for agricultural uses to preserve soil moisture and to apply knowledge on Isotope Hydrology for evaluating artesian well site and searching new sites for drilling in the drought crisis.
